If you're migrating from Tableau Server to Tableau Cloud, validating that permissions and configuration carry over correctly for every affected user can mean testing as dozens or even hundreds of individuals. The same need comes up in day-to-day functional testing too, for example when validating that row-level security is applied correctly across different users. Collecting a Personal Access Token (PAT) from each one simply isn't practical at that scale.
You can now enable a "Run as" option when creating a context, letting you connect to Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud using Connected Apps and a username alone, without needing a PAT from that user. The PAT field remains available and stays the recommended option whenever you have it.
The option is also available from the CLI, as part of the context configuration used to run tests.
