Breaking Changes

Following a page rendering update in Tableau 2025.2, we’ve fixed a bug affecting Regression Tests, specifically the first one listed below.

To ensure the fix is properly applied, you will need to recreate the baseline for your tests. This step is necessary so that both the baseline and the test results reflect the fix—otherwise, the regression test may still fail.

New Features

Improved Visual Comparison for Cross-Environment Testing

Comparing dashboards across environments can be tricky when subtle visual differences go unnoticed or cause unnecessary test failures.

To enhance clarity and control, the image comparison feature now introduces a dual-layered detection system in “Fine” mode.

It highlights significant differences in red (causing test failure) and minor variations in orange (triggering a warning).

This new warning status is visible in both test and task results, helping teams better assess the impact of visual changes during migrations, such as from Tableau Server to Tableau Cloud.

However, it’s important to note that some graphical changes may still be classified as errors, and certain data changes—like a number shifting from 8 to 3—might only trigger a warning. Reviewing warnings remains essential to avoid overlooking critical discrepancies.

Enhanced Transparency in Regression Test Reports

Interpreting regression test results across different environments could previously lead to confusion due to missing contextual details.

This update improves traceability and clarity by enriching test reports with key metadata. The report header now includes the application version, the Tableau site name in URLs, and a clearer label for the executor.

Additionally, both the short and full Tableau version numbers are displayed next to each context name in standard, cross-environment, and multisite comparison tasks.

These enhancements support better auditability and align with ALCOA+ principles for data integrity. Here is some information about ALCOA+ Principles: ALCOA+ - what does it mean? - ECA Academy

Better Validation When Adding a Context

When configuring a new context, it was previously difficult to identify the exact cause of a failed connection.

This update introduces a more informative connection test that checks three key aspects: whether the Connected App is valid, whether the Personal Access Token (PAT) is correct, and whether the PAT is impersonated.

Each check now returns a distinct message, making it easier to pinpoint and resolve configuration issues during setup.

Refreshed License Tab Interface

The previous layout of the License tab could make it difficult to clearly interpret license information, especially after the introduction of the new hardware fingerprint system.

This update brings a redesigned interface to the License tab, improving readability and making it easier to manage license details.

The new layout ensures that key information is more accessible and visually aligned with recent changes in hardware ID handling.
